A price too high: One man’s story of heroin addiction

“Keith’s” story of addiction begins like so many others. At the age of 16, he started partying, hanging out with friends, seeing girls, he explained. First, it seemed like harmless fun —drinking a bit, smoking a little pot. But circumstances changed and Keith soon found himself living the life of a heroin addict.

Keith told his story while on a supervised cigarette break outside the Lake of the Woods County Law Enforcement Center, where he had spent the last week incarcerated while awaiting Hennepin County officials to arrive and transport him to a jail in the Twin Cities.

Read Keith’s story in this week’s Northern Light Region.
