IlaMae (Shane) Kozel, age 76, of East Grand Forks, MN, died Sunday, March 19, 2017, at her home.
IlaMae was born May 2, 1940 in Grand Forks, ND, the daughter of the late Earl and Donna (Haugen) Shane. She grew up in Oslo, MN, and graduated from Alvarado High School in 1958. Afterwards, she attended Bemidji State College. She married Theodore “Ted” Kozel on November 7, 1959 in East Grand Forks, MN at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She worked for Nagels Photography Studios, Leonard Lind Farms, Vern Hagen Farms, and Vern’s Place as a cook. She also farmed with her husband Ted for many years.
Music was a huge part of her life, singing with the Sweet Adelines for over 32 years, she was a past president and “Sweet Adeline of the year”, before becoming a member-at-large. There were over 50 fun years of Card Club playing “smear” and bowling league as well. She was an Eagles Auxiliary member and always willing to volunteer, a Forrester member with Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and let’s not forget the times of being inseparable with Ted while fishing, hanging out with lake friends, sno-catting and traveling.
IlaMae is survived by children, Tim (Charmelle) Kozel of East Grand Forks, MN; Tami (Tim) Nielsen of Fargo, ND; Suzie (Rodney) Larson of Euclid, MN; and Tom Kozel of East Grand Forks, MN; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Allen Shane of Grand Forks, and DelRoy (Marlene) Shane of Rice, MN, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Donna Shane; husband, Ted Kozel; brother Dale Shane, daughter-in-law, Anna Kozel; and brother, Dale Shane.
Memorial Mass: 11:00 am ~ Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Tabor, MN
Visitation: 1 hour before services at the church.
Inurnment: Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, Tabor, MN
