Margaret “Tootie” Swiers Medd, 86, of Grand Forks, ND died Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Valley Elder Care, Grand Forks, ND.
Tootie was born September 3, 1930 in rural Bejou, MN the daughter of Andrew and Margaret (Haats) Swiers. She grew up and attended school in the Bejou, MN area. She married Roland Schultz in Toppenish, WA. She married Leon Dierker in South Dakota. Tootie attended Bernel’s School of Cosmetology in Grand Forks and later became an instructor at Bernel’s. She owned and operated the Golden Carpet Hair Salon in Grand Forks retiring in 1980. She moved to San Antonio, TX where she was a small business owner, moving back to Grand Forks in 1987.
Tootie loved her family! She was proud of her parents and to have been raised on the farm, adored her brothers and sisters, and loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren deeply. Throughout her life, she enjoyed working, meeting new people, and summers at the lake. Tootie liked to have fun with her many friends and enjoyed traveling to sunny places like Hawaii and the Caribbean, and to busy places like New York City. She had an adventurous spirit and was always up for a challenge. She laughed heartily and loved always. Tootie often said she had a good, long life and wouldn’t change a thing.
She is survived by children, Arlene (Robin) Gunderson of Grand Forks, Dr. Lynda Kenney of Crookston, Dan Schultz of Crookston, Rick (Victoria) Dierker of Grand Forks and Dawn Marie (Kerry) Fredlund, San Antonio, TX, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, siblings, Howard (Arlene) Swiers of Shakopee, MN, Richard (Agnes) Swiers of Detroit Lakes, MN, Elores (Herbert) Swift of Crookston, MN, Vernon (Gertrude) Swiers of Dublin, CA, Doreen (Robert) Gunderson of Mahnomen, MN, and Calvin (Crystal) Swiers of Sun City West, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Monday, March 27, 2017 at the Dahl Funeral Home, East Grand Forks, MN.
Visitation: 1 hour before services at the Funeral Home.
Inurnment: Bejou Cemetery, Bejou, MN at a later date.
