Violet Lorraine Bren, 94

Violet Lorraine Bren left this world to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 20th, 2017 at Maple View Memory Center, Grand Forks, ND.

Violet was born May 16, 1922 to Gilbert and Hilma (Johnson) Bratvold of East Grand Forks, MN. She attended country school in rural East Grand Forks. On October 15, 1940 she married Clarence B. Bren in East Grand Forks, MN and they resided in Northland Township where they farmed until retiring in 1973. They moved to East Grand Forks on December 21, 1973. Violet and Clarence celebrated their Golden Anniversary October 15, 1990 in East Grand Forks. Clarence passed away November 13, 1994.

Violet was employed by American Crystal for 16 campaigns, worked at the ND School for the Blind, and did a lot of painting and wallpapering for others. After retiring, her hobbies of crocheting and knitting, collecting local church cookbooks, canning, baking and making lefse kept her busy. Violet loved sharing a good laugh, playing cards, shaking dice and visiting with friends. Guests never left her house without coffee and a sweet treat! She was a member of Ruth Circle, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

In October, 2010 Violet moved from her home to Good Samaritan Heritage Grove, East Grand Forks. She was very happy there, playing Bingo and visiting with the other residents. In March, 2015 she became a resident of Maple View Memory Care, Grand Forks, ND and learned to love the activities and all the staff there, and entertained the other residents with all of her funny antics!

Violet leaved behind her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and LeRoy Holub, Fargo, ND; four grandchildren, Darby (Sherrie) Holub, Enderlin, ND, Deb (Jim) Bitz, Sioux Falls, SD, Stacie Holub, Gilbert, AZ, Kristy (Michael) Tilley, Runnells, IA; eight great-grandchildren, Skyler (Amy) Holub, Jamestown, ND, Carly (Casey) Wieck, Valley City, ND, Jared Bitz, Stanford, CA and Jamie Bitz, Sioux Falls, SD, Mackenzie Smith, Urbandale, IA, Peyton Smith, Scottsdale, AZ, Michael Tilley, Runnells, IA, and Ryan Tilley, Denver, CO; two great-great grandchildren, Kinsley and Teagan Holub, Jamestown, ND; sisters-in-law, Delores Bratvold of Twin Valley, MN and Helen Bratvold of Crookston, MN and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Clarence; parents, Gilbert and Hilma Bratvold; brothers Roy, Vernon, Lester, Melfor, Orien and Ernel; sister, Evelyn Vonasek; step-brother, Arthur C. Bratvold and stepsister, Hazel Martin.
