Gary (Jackie) Erickson of rural Badger is well-known for his kind, jovial nature and his willingness to step up to the plate and offer a helping hand wherever or whenever there is a need.

The possession of these admirable traits have not gone unnoticed.  Last week he was selected the Roseau County 2017 male Senior Citizen Volunteer.

“I enjoy helping others,” Erickson stated.  “I think it’s our responsibility as Christians to help other people.  I’ve been blessed with a good, loving wife, comfortable home, and reasonably good health.”

He commented that he spends a lot of time outdoors.  The Erickson’s picturesque rural residence shows evidence of that.  “Joan wants me out of the house.   Maybe that’s why we’ve been married for 52 years!” he laughed

Award winners at the local county fair level will be entered into the State Outstanding Senior Citizen Award competition.  They will be recognized for their service at the award ceremony at the State Fairgrounds on Senior Day. August 31, 2017.

Does Jackie plan to attend the State Fair?

“I do,” he said.  “I haven’t been there for years.  I’m really a carney at heart; I love fairs!

“I bet I’ve been at the (Roseau County) Fair 70 out of 73 years.  Mom and Dad were very active (participants).  Mom exhibited until she was in her 90’s.”
