Bob was born in a rural area north of Grygla in 1943. As a boy he was busy logging and haying with his dad, Ezra. While he was haying on July 4, 1953, a horse pulling the dump rake was stung by a bee and overturned the rake, breaking Bob’s back. After finishing school, Bob enlisted in the U.S.Army. He spent some time in Fort Ord, CA, and then a year in Texas. He spent a year in Germany and then had a 13-month tour in Vietnam. He was home on leave when he met Joyce.
After getting married, Bob and Joyce moved to Fayetteville, NC, where they spent 14 months. During that time they welcomed the first of their three sons, Roger. Bob moved to Okinawa, Japan, and a year later, Joyce and Roger joined him. Rob, their second son, was born during their stay there. They moved back to North Carolina where Paul was born, and a few months later they moved to Minneapolis, where they lived for six years. Their family moved to Germany for three years before Bob retired from the Army and they settled in Badger. He worked several jobs which included Beet Plants, Grunigs Farm, Construction, Polaris, Marvin’s, Motor Coach Industries and Howell Farms and officially retired at the age of 59-1/2.
Bob and Joyce wintered in Apache Junction, AZ, for the past 14 years where they enjoyed shuffleboard tournaments and spending time with friends. Bob enjoyed his hobbies, hunting, camping, snowmobiling, fishing, raising dogs, listening to old country music and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed!
