C. Edward Carlson, 83

C. Edward Carlson, 83 of Strandquist, MN passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Sanford Hospital in Thief River Falls, MN with his loving family at his side.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Friday, October 18, 2019 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist, MN. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist, MN with Pastor Larry Myhrer officiating. Burial will follow at the Mission Covenant Cemetery, rural Strandquist, Minnesota.
Charles Edward Carlson was born on February 25, 1936 in Minneapolis, MN and was adopted by Otto and Hilma (Blackberg) Carlson as a young child. He was baptized into the Christian faith. Edward attended school in Strandquist, MN. Following school, Edward worked on the family farm and worked in the potato harvest near Stephen, MN.
At a wedding reception in McIntosh, MN in April of 1957, Edward met the love of his life Janice Larson. The couple were married on June 22, 1958 at the Winger Lutheran Church in Winger, MN. They made their home in Strandquist for the first year and then moved onto the Carlson Family Farm. To this union two children were born, Robert and Lori.
They owned and operated a dairy farm through the mid-1970’s and then began a feeder cattle operation. In his later years, Edward hauled livestock for the Winger and Bagley Sales Barns. He loved his farming life and was very proud to see his son Robbie continue with the farming operation. For a couple of years, Edward also drove van for the Soo Line Railroad.
Edward enjoyed visiting with family and friends, traveling to the sales barns, and driving around checking on the crops and the neighbors. In his earlier years, Edward enjoyed driving chariot ponies. In 2000, Edward suffered a stroke which completely changed his life.
When Edward was 60 years old, he found his birth family and was happy to get to know them.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Janice of Strandquist; son, Robbie of Strandquist; daughter, Lori (Todd) Jensen; grandchildren, Kayla Jensen; Sally’s children, Missy (Dustin) Keller of Lindstrom, MN and Michael (Nicolle) Carlson of Thief River Falls, MN and their children, Cody Swenson, Tabor and Emma Keller, Ariella Kingbird, Hunter Connolly and Zachary Carlson and granddaughter, Kinsley Swenson; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors & friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and the love of Robbie’s life, Sally.
