1.1  Opening Statement by Board Chair Regarding General Process for Remote School Board Meeting During COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic School Closure

FCCLA Advisor Laura Dahl reported to the Board via Zoom about the number of qualifiers for the National FCCLA Competition.  Five (5) students qualified and two (2) additional students qualified as Alternates to advance to National Competition based on previous competition scores.  This is the largest number of qualifiers in GMR history.  It is uncertain at this time if the National Convention will be held in Washington DC in July.  Ms. Dahl will continue to monitor and report to Board the provisions made for this competition.

5. Special Work Session
5.1.  Review and discussion relating to deficit reduction(s) in the current 2019-2020 school year and 2020-2021 school year.  Supt. Guggisberg present financial information along with a list of suggestions made by GMR staff and the public.  The Board directed Supt. Guggisberg and Principal Schultz to work on a list of recommendations for potential budget cuts.
5.2.     Review and discussion relating to compensation of Spring Activity Coaches and Advisors as it relates to the MN State High School League canceling spring Activities due to the  COVID-19 pandemic.
5.3.      End of the School Year Events & Activities and yet-to-be determined possible guidance for Start of School Fall 2020  Much discussion centered around Graduation for the 2020 Senior Class and the Order set forth by Minnesota Dept of Education and Governor Walz.  With a unanimous roll call vote:  Kilen – Yes, Stromsodt – Yes, Harder – Yes, Kuznia – Yes, Howard – Yes, Stenberg – Yes, Melby – Yes, the Board asked Supt. Guggisberg and Principal Schultz to work on the possibility of hosting the Graduation ceremony at Greenbush Race Park.
