Shirley Ann Koland, 90

Shirley Ann Koland, of Karlstad, MN, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at the age of 90. A longtime resident of Karlstad, she and her husband, George, owned the Northstar Motor Inn and Bottle Shop for many years. Shirley Ann loved to bake and decorate for Christmas, and was active at the Karlstad Senior Center. She especially enjoyed playing Bingo. Shirley’s final eight months were spent at the Meadows and Karlstad Senior Living. The family wants to thank all the nurses and caregivers that took such good care of her. She is survived by her children, Paulette Pikop, Alwyn Johnson, Randall Johnson, Cindy Rea Johnson, Jeffrey Smith, and Kurt Smith; stepchildren, Alex Koland, Dan Koland, and Ann Hodoba; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, George, who passed away in late 2020; Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Tena (Skatrud) Dagen; and siblings, Marvella Minski, LaMour Dagen, Verda Swanson, Marjorie Oistad, and Lawrence Dagen.
