The Gators Girls Golf program had captured consecutive Section 8A team titles from 2018 to 2019 before COVID-19 cancelled the 2020 golf season. After winning its sub-section by 51 strokes this year, the defending Section 8A Champion Gator Girls Golf team headed to the Bemidji Town and Country Club for the Section 8A Girls Golf Tournament, June 1 and 2, looking to recapture that section crown.
The Gator Girls Golf team would do just that. Led by four of the top ten individual performances, the team captured the Section 8A title with an overall low score of 760— 88 strokes better than second-place Fertile-Beltrami.
Alyssa Rinde led the way for the Gators with a two-day score of 169— the lowest individual score at the girls tournament by 17 strokes. Also contributing to the Gators’ team score, Anissah Novacek tied for third individually with a score of 190, Jasmine Christianson finished seventh with a score of 199, and Jade Reese tenth with a score of 202. As another member of the Section 8A Champion team, Bethanie VonEnde finished twenty-sixth individually with a score of 265.
With this Section 8A title, the Gator Girls Golf program will make its fifth state tournament appearance as a team. The Class A State Girls Golf Tournament runs June 15 and 16 from Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker.
A Gator Girls Golf state send-off is scheduled for Sunday, June 13 at 7:00 pm from Oakview Golf Course in Greenbush.
